Moments after getting set up, Norfolk Southern train 170 knocked down the clear signal at Flint. If you look closely, you can see a clear signal in the opposite direction on the closest track. This was for loaded ethanol train, 68G, which met 170 just north of these signals.

Dear Global Climate Change,

I really really really don't like you ;)

This has been the hottest and driest year on record in most parts of Texas. It's almost October, and it was 101 today in Austin. 90 days over 100 degrees and 156 over 90 this year. We actually had some rain today and hopefully it was the last 100 degree day of the year, as a "cold front" is blowing in. As I type it's actually a little wet outside and theres a bit off fall in the air! I've been waiting for this for what feels like forever. I'm soooooo in the mood for some cool crisp air and a nice fall day :)

There were really beautiful clouds this afternnon as some rain thought about moving in...and I was lucky to be near a high spot with a great view of the Austin skyline to capture them.

To me...this is what something starting to change looks like. And I'm all smiles :)

This is Penmon Point lighthouse or Trwyn Du to give it it's Welsh name and is located on Anglesey in Wales.

Apologies to those who feel as though they've seen this before. This is actually a different shot to the one I uploaded previously and I feel has a far stronger composition.

Many thanks to the folk at The World Through My Eyes who voted this first place in their weekly competition.

Also thanks to the folk at WelshFlickrCymru who voted it third in their September monthly competition/

I had a bit of a walkabout in London yesterday and finally managed to take a shot of the Gherkin that was worthy enough to post. I find it such a difficult structure to shoot. The way it's positioned makes it difficult to isolate. I was trying not to shoot it in the symmetrical straight up manner as well but it's tough finding a fresh viewpoint on it, I guess because of the way it's shaped. Hopefully I've managed to give a unique spin to it.

This is the 3rd or 4th time now that I've headed to London to shoot this and it's the only time the weather has played nice and I've come away with a decent image. It can be so frustrating when you put in so much time and come away with nothing and yet, so satisfying when things come together just right. The ups and downs of photography - check out Andy Brown's entertaining post on this very topic.

Here's to a good week ahead.
